A viral mistake leads to a sweet escape—can love be found in the quiet corners of life?

When LA-based social media star Mia Daniels' perfectly curated life implodes after a viral scandal, she escapes to the quaint town of Cider Mill, Ohio. Her plan? To lay low until the storm passes. What she doesn't expect is to find herself drawn to Jack Miller, a fourth-generation candy maker who creates magic with copper pots and believes some moments are better left uncaptured.

As Mia trades her ring light for chocolate-stained aprons, she discovers there's more to life than likes and follows. But just as she and Jack begin to create their own sweet blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern flair, her social media past threatens to unravel their budding romance.

With her heart on the line and her career hanging by a thread, Mia must decide what matters more: reclaiming her online empire or pursuing a love that's anything but virtual.

My Sweet Escape is a heartwarming contemporary romance about finding authenticity in a filtered world, the courage to be vulnerable, and the sweet truth that sometimes life's most precious moments deserve to be savored, not shared.

Content Warning: Mentions mental illness, cyber-bullying. Explicit sex.

I couldn’t sleep so I started this sweet story and I’m glad I did!

The way that I went through all these emotions - joy, surprise, sadness, annoyance! That’s the mark of a story well done in my opinion.

Mia is really struggling to be authentic, to be ‘good enough’ and the way that’s told through something a lot of people can understand makes all of her indecision and back and forth relatable and not just fluff or a commentary.

Jack is so grounding and steadfast - but not without depth and emotions. I think similar to Mia it also annoyed me at first but Barbara really helps you understand and appreciate being present and grounded right along with the characters.

Also the love story part is cute too; full of legitimate ups and downs and overcoming mental challenges when dealing with intimacy which a lot more people struggle with then want to admit.

✨ I absolutely loved this story. I love small town romances where someone leaves a big town & ends up loving the small one. As someone from San Diego who moved to a small town in high school, this trope will always be a comfort read for me.

• I found myself dying to be curled up w this book & a nice cup of tea.

I loved this book so much. Literally did not want it to end. So much depth, emotion & a pure connection that ended on a beautiful note. I loved Jack’s character so much. The way he’s able to disconnect from social media & enjoy the beauty of life is a trait we all need in a man. Literally a perfect Black love story. I highly recommend this book & can’t wait to read more novels by this author.

I loved this book. The characters were so well-drawn, with a depth that made them jump off the page. Jack is perfection--almost as good as fudge. I loved how Mia's journey was complicated and realistic and anchored. She truly became the person she wanted to be, and experiencing it with her was a treat. If you're looking for a sweet romance--with a LOT of spice--this one is for you!
